Skincare without parabens
Do Dr. Hauschka skin care products contain parabens?
No. Dr. Hauschka has always intentionally avoided using synthetic preservatives such as parabens and phenoxyethanol.
All skin care manufacturers must ensure their products are protected against microbial contamination and are safe to use. Adding preservatives is the easiest way to achieve this but it is not the only way. In the EU, allowed preservatives are specified by regulation. Parabens and phenoxyethanol are some of the most the most commonly used preservatives. These synthetics are powerful antibacterial and antifungals but are also the most controversial.
Only a handful of naturally occurring preservatives such as benzoic acid and sorbitol are allowed in NATRUE-certified products like Dr. Hauschka Skin Care. Neither of parabens nor phenoxyethanol are permitted.
Most preservatives, even synthetic, are non-irritating to the skin. However, any substance that kills microorganisms in products can also impact the skin’s naturally occurring, beneficial microflora. Dr. Hauschka has always intentionally refused to use either synthetic preservatives like parabens and phenoxyethanol and even the natural preservatives permitted by NATRUE. Our commitment to producing preservative-free products will remain constant into the future.
Despite this, new regulations for cosmetic advertising no longer allow the claim “paraben-free” . In compliance, we will be removing this claim from our brochures and advertising media.
The fact that we can’t say it does not impact in any way our commitment to the purity and high quality of our 100% certified natural formulations. The microbiological cleanliness and safety of Dr. Hauschka products continues to be guaranteed by a wide range of measures that ensure stability:
- Thorough microbial testing of raw materials
