Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Leaf Extract Nettle is a highly nutritious herb containing Vitamins K and A, calcium, iron and magnesium. It is an intensely green, silica-rich plant which fortifies the skin and scalp and conditions the hair. Urtica dioca is garden nettle while the smaller urens species is called dwarf nettle. Both are commonly called "stinging nettle" because they are covered in sharp hairs that release highly irritating formic acid when touched. This leads to the phenomenon called "7-minute itch": an intense burning, itching sensation that fortunately passes quickly. In fact, juice of the nettles can help calm the irritation. Extraction or cooking of nettle neutralizes the irritating acid. Nettle has a purifying effect in the Birch Arnica Body Oil.
