Prunus Spinosa Fruit ExtractBlackthorn is a hearty rose (rosacea) family shrub, also known as sloe. Plants also in the rose family are quince, almond, cherry, apple and pear. The fruit of the blackthorn contain tannins and plant acids, as well as many vitamins and antioxidants and is fortifying during periods of weakness and fatigue. Both fruit and flower extracts are strengthening as well as revitalizing and warming to the skin.
Punica Granatum Fruit ExtractGrown mainly in India and the Middle East, antioxidant-rich pomegranate extract helps support skin renewal and protect against harsh environmental influences. The extract is made from the whole fruit – the peel, flesh, and seeds. The seeds are rich in punicic acid and the peel is strong, containing a lot of moisture within it.
Purified WaterPurified water, derived from well water that has been distilled, is used in making many herbal extracts, mother tinctures, creams and ointments for Holistic Home Remedies at WALA. Purified Water is employed in creams to achieve a good consistency, hydrate skin and help ingredients penetrate the skin.
Pyrus Cydonia (Quince) Seed ExtractQuince is a small tree, resembling the apple, found in the Caucasus region between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. It favors cooler climates and produces a large, firm, yellow fruit. Due to its cool-nature and high mucilage content, quince seed is characterized by its soothing and hydrating properties. It also supports the natural moisture processes of the skin to get and retain moisture.
Pyrus Cydonia Peel/Fruit WaxA wax that coats the peel of quince, an apple-like fruit with moisturizing, soothing and protective properties. Quince are a large, yellow, furry fruit that remain on the tree until winter, withstanding cold temperatures. It stays hard, bitter and unripe and only when cooked does it become sweet and edible. Resilience to cold temperatures indicates its protective quality. The quince is a delicate, vulnerable plant which has learned to protect itself and regulate its moisture content. Quince fruits that over-winter on the tree appear fresh and plump, while their cousins the apples, are dried and shriveled. WALA obtains some of the quince it uses from Italy, but the majority of it comes from Spain.
Pyrus Malus (Apple Cider Vinegar)Cider vinegar is produced by fermenting organic apple juice. It is used traditionally as a hair conditioner and helps regulate the pH of the skin. Apple cider vinegar is a traditional hair rinse. Made by fermenting cider from apple juice, this unsulfured vinegar contains valuable enzymes, organic acids and vitamins. Its natural acidity discourages build-up and adjusts pH.
Quercus Robur Bark ExtractHigh in tannins, oak bark helps tone and fortify the skin. It is calming and supportive to the barrier function, as well as the self-cleansing processes of the skin.
