Red Clover (Trifolium Pratense)

The round, red-white porcupine heads of red clover appear in meadows from May to September. Bumble bees love these red clover blossoms, which are rich in nectar and an abundant source for honey.

Rich in antioxidants and isoflavones, red clover helps the skin combat signs of aging by neutralizing free radicals. This adaptable and prolific plant grows back very quickly, indicating its ability to encourage the natural process of skin renewal. A complex extract of the whole red clover plant from certified biodynamic cultivation is used in our Regenerating Products.

Interesting Facts

• The genus name Trifolium, or trefoil, comes from the Latin tres (tria=three) and folium (leaf), indicating the three-part clover leaf. The species name Pratense also comes from Latin (partum=meadow), indicating its natural habitat.
• Protein-rich red clover is the most important fodder plant for the agriculture industry. Vigorous and prolific, red clover can easily withstand being cut several times a year, thus providing a continuous supply of high-quality food for cattle.
• For the Celts, clover was a symbol of happiness and a talisman against evil spirits. It could ward off spells and grant clairvoyance.

Processing of Red Clover for Skin Care
For our Regenerating products, red clover is processed from certified biodynamic sources. The mixture is left to mature for seven days in big earthenware vats. Every morning and evening, employees stir the resulting essence vigorously, allowing light into the liquid, which is otherwise left in the dark. This rhythmic process instills the essence with the polarities of nature.
